Challenges in technology to satisfy enterprise needs in 2013 and expectations

UMB has focused on a growth plan accepting business diversity, which has permitted us to become a modified financial services company with multi-billion dollar benefit. The challenge is that assortment has made data management complex. To realize success in cross-selling, we would have liked to actually understand the customer and therefore the relationship, but we struggled with a standard view of what the customer seemed like across different channels, markets, and products.

Some of the items you've got done to elevate IT's relationship with the business

We developed a technique with a core mission statement to be the ‘Technology Broker of Choice’. When our associates have a drag or a selected need, they don’t get to come to us with a solution. they have to return to us as a trusted advisor and that we can work together to seek out a technological solution to a business problem.

The manner during which data is employed to go off problems and complications before they happen

Last year, UMB made an enterprise engagement to Service Oriented Architecture. One of the objectives was to enable proactive enterprise monitoring. 

A second objective was to scale back the proliferation of system interfaces by establishing reusable services. Accomplishing these objectives has been a mind shift for our team. Everyone now has pride in ownership of products, and other people are taking their job personally.

My roles and responsibilities as a CIO

In the financial services sector, the role regulators play in day-to-day operations is increasing at a rate we haven’t seen within the past. New standards issued by the FFIEC or CFPB have elongated project delivery cycles, necessitated system upgrades and increased training requirements of all IT employees. The technology labor pool is more mobile than ever. I spent tons of your time brooding about how I can keep our talented people on board doing what they love during a way that aligns with our company’s goals."

The areas during a business environment where solutions don't yet exist or not up to the mark, and which if existed, would've made the work easier

Our list item would be a more automated platform to attach system monitoring, CMDB (Configuration Management Data Base) management, SLA reporting, and customer contracts. it might be a large order, but ensuring our sales associates are cognizant of current capabilities when negotiating SLAs would do tons to create strong relationships with customers and business partners.

Technology trends impacting the enterprise business environment

UMB’s strategic focus is on creating Unparalleled Customer Experience. We are engaging with our customers during a sort of social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter. UMB has embraced BYOD strategies around tablets and smartphones while maintaining the safety required. The initiatives are an enormous boost to the connection MIS has with the business.

Lessons learned and your advice for fellow CIOs

People matter– first, last and always. we would like people to seem at technology as a way to an end, not an end in itself. Everything matters, but what matters most is communication. confirm to over-communicate together with your team. Don’t think you'll change it quickly or easily, but attempt to leverage the positive elements that you simply have already got going for you. Understand the corporate culture and confirm you'll and do align with it.
